A dental bridge can restore your smile and help you to eat and chew normally after the loss of a tooth.
If you have missing teeth, your dentist can close – or bridge – the gaps in your teeth with a dental bridge. This is essentially a false tooth that is held in place by the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. Dental bridges are most commonly made from porcelain to blend in with the natural colour of the teeth.
Traditional ceramic bridge
There are two main types of dental bridges:
this consists of a false tooth being held in place by dental crowns that have been cemented onto each of the abutment teeth. This type of bridge is the most popular and can be used when you have natural teeth on each side of the missing tooth
while a traditional bridge uses dental crowns on the abutment teeth, a Maryland bridge utilises a metal framework which is then attached to the backs of the abutment teeth. This type of bridge can also only be used when there is a natural tooth on either side of the missing tooth
A dental bridge is a restorative dental device used to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of a false tooth (or teeth) held in place by crowns on the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. Bridges help restore your smile and the ability to eat and chew normally.
Dental bridges offer several benefits, including:
Restoring the appearance of your smile
Improving your ability to chew and speak properly
Preventing remaining teeth from shifting out of position
Maintaining the natural shape of your face
Distributing the forces in your bite properly
Dental bridges are most commonly made from porcelain, which is chosen for its ability to blend seamlessly with the natural color of your teeth. Porcelain bridges provide a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing result.
The procedure for getting a dental bridge typically involves the following steps:
Consultation: Your dentist will examine your oral health and discuss the best treatment options for you.
Preparation: The abutment teeth on either side of the gap are prepared by removing a portion of the enamel to make room for the crowns.
Impressions: An impression of your teeth is taken to create a custom bridge.
Temporary Bridge: A temporary bridge is placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the permanent bridge is being made.
Placement: Once the permanent bridge is ready, it is fitted, adjusted for comfort, and then cemented into place.
To care for your dental bridge, maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing daily. Pay special attention to cleaning under the bridge and around the abutment teeth. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are also essential to ensure the longevity of your bridge and overall oral health.
Our dentists will do all they can to ensure your teeth are healthy, strong and last a lifetime,

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.”

I’ve been contemplating having my teeth correctly aligned for years. I have been very conscious of my smile in photos and always avoided having pictures taken. The work carried out at Epic Dental has been so impressive with the modern facilities and welcoming professional staff. I was given lots of different options and advice about which procedure was best for me. It has given me a natural look which is what I wanted, I only wish I had made the effort years ago.
